Steven G. Wharton is an Of Counsel in the Corporate Section of Thomas Kennedy Sampson & Tompkins LLP.  His principal areas of practice include commercial real estate, general business law matters, and estate planning.

Mr. Wharton received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark in 2001 and his B.B.A. in Accounting from Baruch College in 1994.  While attending law school, he was a Student Attorney in his schools Community Law Clinic in 2000 and 2001, where he assisted in the process of closing construction loans and commercial and residential real estate transactions for several community development corporations.  Mr. Wharton also served as the Managing Notes & Comments Editor of the Rutgers Computer and Technology Law Journal in 2000 and 2001 and as the Treasurer of the Student Bar Association in 2000.  

Mr. Wharton has conducted numerous commercial real estate closing transactions in which the firm represented various lenders, builders, and borrowers.  The size and complexity of the transactions varied from a $10,000.00 business loan for equipment for the borrowers business operations to a $15,000,000.00 construction loan for the borrowers new business location.

In the Firms Capacity as Bond Counsel, Mr. Wharton has assisted in the preparation, execution and filing of Bond Validation Petitions for various bond issues, including: the $331,085,000 State of Georgia General Obligation Bonds Series 2007F and 2007G; and the $100,000,000 State of Georgia General Obligation Variable Rate Demand Bonds Series 2006H.

Mr. Wharton has negotiated numerous contracts and commercial leases on behalf of large companies, small companies and individuals.  He has also assisted entrepreneurs with various matters ranging from structuring their budding businesses to exploring various financing options for obtaining start-up capital.

Prior to Joining Thomas Kennedy Sampson & Tompkins LLP, Mr. Wharton provided legal support to the Environmental Litigation Section of a major Atlanta law firm.  He primarily provided advisory research support for a national pharmaceutical client in its defense of various claims concerning the marketing of one of its products.

Mr. Wharton is honored to have served as a Judicial Intern for The Honorable Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr., U.S. District Judge, District of New Jersey and as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Brenda H. Cole, Judge, State Court of Fulton County Georgia.

Mr. Wharton is a member of the Real Property Law and Business Law Sections of the State Bar of Georgia, and a member of the Gate City Bar Association.

In addition to being an attorney, Mr. Wharton is also a Certified Public Accountant.  Prior to entering law school, he was an internal auditor with a Fortune 100 Company and a financial auditor with a Big Four accounting firm.
